Have you suffered from a Work- Related Injury? Work related injuries affect 65% of employees yet only 18% go reported. Reasons for this are multi-faceted. Some are scared about repercussions of filing a report while others are persuaded by incentives not to file. What people do not understand is that if the injury is not documented, there is no record of it happening. Meaning further, should this condition not heal or even worse, become exacerbated there may be no recourse for establishing responsibility on the employer.
Many people experience work related injuries and wait too long to take action. They expect the pain to go away on its own, which it usually does, but what people do not know is that the injury could have created scar tissue even if the pain subsides. Scar tissue is typically less flexible and a more fibrous tissue. This scar tissue is weaker and less likely to heal making prone to re-injury.
Injuries should be evaluated if only for the purpose of documentation but mainly for proper diagnosis and treatment. For example, if a simple sprain strain injury occurs (the most common occurring work related injury) and is treated with a few rehabilitation visits the outcome would most likely decrease the chances of re-injury by over 80%. Re-injuries are usually worse than the original. For example, a simple knee sprain/strain left untreated may grow scar tissue which is more brittle and therefore not as strong. If that same knee is re-injured from a simple slip on a wet surface this could result in a torn ligament because the scar tissue could not support the stress from the slip. This is unfortunately a common occurrence and could be prevented if we think harder and work smarter.
Things to remember:
As an injury occurs make a record of it even if it is your own and noted with time, dates and people who witnessed.
If the pain extends beyond 4-5 days get it examined.
Do not cover the symptoms with over the counter medication. You may be doing more harm than good.
Always remember to follow job duty guidelines and use precautions.
Pre and post work stretching can minimize or even eliminate chances of work related injuries.
Do you suffer from headaches and migraines?
Most people choose to live with headaches because they have been conditioned to think that the pain is easily treated with over the counter medication. The problem with this thought process is in doing this people are only treating the symptom of the condition leaving the cause to persist and lay in wait for the next headache episode.
The causes of headaches are relatively easy to treat. The biggest part of treatment is to find the cause. A majority of headaches are musculoskeletal, meaning they generate from joints and muscles that get locked and cause irritation on the nervous system. There can also be other treatable causes like inflammation, muscular spasms and vascular compromise. It is also important to mention some of the rare causes like tumors, fractures, diabetes, kidney and heart problems. This is the reason headaches should be evaluated by a physician who specializes in musculoskeletal conditions. Most of the sever causes can be ruled out and the true condition can be found and treated properly.
Stop living with the pain, the symptoms of pain are not a healthy way to assess how a condition is progressing. Lack of pain isn't the same as being healthy. Begin thinking in a new capacity for the benefit of you and your family.
Living with NECK PAINS and MIGRAINE HEADACHES.
“Everyday I live with some type of a headache, neck and shoulder pain. I have tried the wide variety of medications, over the counter, and prescribed including pain injections with little to no relief. I’m constantly living in pain. What can I say, I am scared. I am 34, a mother of 2, I work at a busy restaurant carrying trays of food and standing on my feet all day. I can’t even do household chores like laundry and cooking dinner which means I cannot do the things I enjoy or even take care of my family the way I would like to. Do you know of any treatments that can help me?”

Neck pains and Migraines are difficult conditions to treat because the cause of the symptoms can be from many things. Our solution to neck pains and migraines is to diagnose the condition by finding cause of the pain. I often find it necessary with Neck Pains and Migraines to use Chiropractic treatments which fix bones in the spine to reduce muscle spasms and inflammation which cause the headaches and neck pain. Rehabilitation with exercise and massage also help to reduce muscle tightness, improve range of motion to reduce pressure against nerves. If you are suffering from Neck Pains and Migraines or headaches, in general, and would like to get more information we invite you to call us at 317-848-8048 to schedule a Consultation and Exam where Dr. Martz will listen to your concerns to see if our facility might be an option for you.
